One oncologist. One coastline. Six months. 6,000 miles.

In March 2027, consultant oncologist and elite ultra-runner Dr Lucy Gossage will set out to run roughly 6,000 miles around the coastline of mainland Britain — one continuous loop, six months, no shortcuts.

Do the best things in life happen by accident? Lucy came to sport late and by accident, and it changed everything. The Longest Lap is one continuous loop of the British coast, six months on foot, stopping along the way to walk and run 5K with people living with and beyond cancer.

“If exercise were a pill, it would be given to everyone with a cancer diagnosis.”

Movement during and after cancer

WHY IT MATTERS

Exercise during and after cancer treatment is one of the most powerful tools available to people living with the disease. It reduces fatigue, improves mood, improves quality of life and treatment tolerance, and lowers the risk of recurrence. Three or four brisk 30-minute walks a week can cut recurrence risk to a degree comparable with many of the drugs we prescribe.

Most patients still arrive believing rest is best. That gap is why Lucy co-founded Move Against Cancer and created 5K Your Way — and why she is running the coast of Britain.

Six months of authentic, daily storytelling

A rare, long-form platform: a credible medical voice, a genuinely hard athletic challenge, and an engaged running audience following every mile of the British coastline. We are looking for a small number of partners who want to be part of it from the start.
