About
The Challenge
How it will work
Over a six-month sabbatical, I'll run a continuous loop of mainland Britain - covering every mile of the England and Wales coast paths, and staying as close to the coastline as possible, on as few roads as I can, through Scotland.
I won't be doing it alone. Along the route, I'll walk and run 5K stretches with around 500 people from the Move Against Cancer community, through pop-up Coastal 5K Your Way events. Some will run, some will walk, some will be taking their first steps back towards activity. All of them are the point.
I set off on Saturday 27 March 2027, with the Edinburgh 5K Your Way group, heading north.
The above map is a placeholder, route map coming soon.

Pop-up 5k events in coastal towns along the route - walk, jog or volunteer, at any pace, alongside people living with and beyond cancer.
Host Lucy
Lucy will be looking for places to stay along route. Soon you’ll be able to get in touch to volunteer accommodation support.
-
Yes. The lap is a single continuous journey on foot around the coast of mainland Britain, run in stages day after day rather than as separate trips.
-
Everything the coast offers: national trails, cliff paths, shingle, estuary detours, seawalls, promenades and quiet coastal lanes where the path runs out.
-
A small, lean support setup - a vehicle for kit and resupply, with accommodation arranged in stages along the route. Support partners are being sought for Phase 1.
-
Yes. Community run events are planned in coastal towns and cities throughout the six months, open to anyone at any pace.
